What’s happening to Pori Moni is unacceptable: Badhon

Acclaimed actor Azmeri Haque Badhon called the treatment meted out to Pori Moni “unacceptable” and “shameful.”

In a recent interview, she said “I am worried about the physical, mental and professional security and well being of my colleague. As a woman, I am even more ashamed and feeling increasingly concerned. After 50 years of independence, if we cannot do better by our women, then it is a matter of grave concern.”

“This recent debacle exposed where women stand in our society,” she added.




Badhon was recently seen in Srijit Mukherji's series, "Robindronath Ekhane Kawkhono Khete Ashenni" (REKKA), alongside Rahul Bose, Anjan Dutt, Anirban Bhattacharya and Anirban Chakrabarti.

The series is receiving mixed reviews from critics, with some calling it ‘mediocre.’

“We don’t even know exactly what Pori Moni has done and why she is being repeatedly remanded. The way her personal life has been dissected in media is unacceptable,” Badhon continued.




A Dhaka court has set Thursday for the bail hearing in a case filed against Pori Moni under the Narcotics Control Act.

The bail hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, but Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas fixed Thursday for both bail and remand hearing after the CID sought another remand of five days to interrogate the actress.

On August 13, Pori Moni and her aide Ashraful Islam Dipu were brought to the court after a two-day remand in the drug case filed against them with Banani police station.

“She is an established actor, who has had a good career. As a fellow artist and a citizen, I feel distressed. If she has committed any crime, let our legal system do its job without us jumping on conclusions.”

Badhon starred in Director Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s second feature “Rehana Maryam Noor,” which made it to the prestigious and competitive “Un Certain Regard” section of the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
